Solanum Lycopersicum is the Latin name for Tomato, also known as love apple, fertility, knowledge, divination power, luxury and abundance, deceit and death, when looking at the traditional symbolism of the tomato in classical painting. The naked figure also has connections with classical symbolism, such as: Natural, innocent, unprotected, birth, the liberation of the self from worldly riches and ambitions, unadorned reality and truth, mother earth, freedom from illusions, virtue, lust and shamelessness, the primordial state, penance, the martyr, the soul freed from the garments of shame, standing naked before one's creator clothed in one's own power. The gigantic, red tomato combined with the small human figure is thus a reflection on humanity's relationship with food and the environment.
